A Miricle Comeback Propels the Americans to Back to Back Wins!!
The 2011 contest once again was marked by spotty weather as the teams battled a wet course, on and off showers and each other.
The Europeans started off strong - dominating the early matches and taking a 5 1/2 to 2 1/2 lead into the afternoon matches. They further pressed their advantages in the better ball matches and entered the singles matches with a seeminlgly insurmountable 8-4 lead. The Euros only needed 2 1/2 of the available 8 points in the singles matches, but the American's came storming back to win the cup 10 1/2 to 9 1/2.
Individual honors go to European MVP Bob Schumaker who was perfect on the day - winning 4 points for the Euros. The Americans were led by John Bitzer who scored 3 1/2 points and Kim Hartung, whose epic comback in the singles match against Joe Greene proved the difference maker for the Americans. Rudy Cislak contributed 3 points for the Americans, making the most of his sponsors exemption to the event.
Special thanks to the DCC grounds crew who got the course in shape after the heavy rains. It will be interesting to see what changes we may see in the 2012 event as the Americans try for the never before achieved Threepeat .
