The Doylestown Ryder Cup at DCC

2025 Player Bios

Jim Neumann – A win in 2024 and the fact that nobody else wanted the job, helped Neumann keep the captaincy for 2025 for the 17th year in a row. Retirement and an over abundance of golf (150 rounds to date for the year) has reduced Neumann's handicap, making him vulnerable to Hodge in the captains matchup. With age has come more course management for Neumann, that coupled with the fact he can't hit it as far, which has produced a more consistent game. We will see how it holds up in the pressure of the Ryder Cup.

Tony Verbeck – The newest (and one of the oldest) American players, Tony started his Ryder Cup career a decade ago when he played for the US team. He then invoked his EU dual citizenship and joined the Euros for a number of years where he proved to be a thorn in the side of the US team. Good news for the Americans is that Tony will be back on the US squad and looking to enact some revenge on the Euros who unceremoniously dropped Tony from the team several years ago. A player with an overall winning record in his Ryder Cup record, Tony will be a welcome addition to the US team.

Brian Trymbiski (Sr.) – Senior has been a stalwart of the US team for over a decade and one of the most consistent players in the history of the Ryder Cup. Nothing can fluster this guy other than playing with one of his sons. Look for Neumann to avoid a Trymbiski / Trymbiski pairing during the matchup pairings. Senior is looking to bounce back from an "off" year where he only earned 2 points in the 2024 event. I'm betting we see a 4 point day from this grinder in 2025.

Jim Bartow – Bartow comes into the 2025 event as somwhat of an enigma for both his US teammates and the Euros. Nagging back issues and family have limited Bartow's play in 2025 but as one of the original Ryder Cup members, he is a tough minded competitor who will battle until the end where his mental strength will pull him through a close match.

Brian Trymbiski (Jr.) – When Junior joined the team in 2018 he was given a year to year contract. Given his 1-3 record in 2024 there was some question on whether he would be back this year, but in looking at his overall body of work, Junior has delivered solid play over the years and continues to be a "regular" on the US squad. One of the longer hitters on the US squad, Junior gives the Americans flexibility in the pairings.

John Bitzer – Bitzer has reinvented his golf game in 2025. Most guys in their 60s lose distance every year, but not Bitzer who has added 20+ yards to his drives by enlisting the diet and swing speed regiment of Bryson DeChambeau. After contemplating retirement following a 1-2-1 outing in 2024, Bitzer comes into the 2025 event a heavy favorite to return 3+ points for the Americans like in did in his younger days. The mood at the pairings party will likely be much different for the teammates assigned to play with Bitzer this year vs. last.

Russ Hartung – Russ has been handed the Hartung baton from Kim who owns one of the best Ryder Cup singles records of all time. Whether Russ can live up to the legacy of his father is yet to be seen, but his all round excellent game allows for unlimited pairing possibilities for the Americans. Russ was a rookie in 2024 and had 2 wins and 2 ties (one of them likely should have been a win outside of some controversy on 18 in the singles match). Look for Russ to continue his unbeaten streak in 2025.

Tim Pubins – The MVP of the team in 2024 with 3 wins and a tie, Tim is a proven point producer in the Ryder Cup. Tim's game has been a little up and down this year which puts him at a handicap level that is advantageous for the Americans. Tim is comfortable and able to beat both the low and high handicappers on the Euros and is someone that any of the Americans would be happy to be paired with. Look for the Americans to use Tim's influence as DCC President to have the course set up to favor team USA.
Rick Hodge – For the 19th Ryder Cup in a row, Captain Hodge leads the Euros in the 2025 campaign. The Euros hold an 11-7 (one rainout) lead on the Americans, so Hodge has no reason to change the formula that has worked for years... whiskey + tequila = victory. Hodge had 2 points for the Euros last year, but like many his teammates, he lost both afternoon matches which allowed the US comeback win in 2025. Hodge has joined many fellow DCC members in southwest Florida, and there is talk of expanding the Ryder Cup to southern venues in the future...stay tuned. Look for Hodge to amp up the liquor requirements for the Euros at lunch to help get them back in the winner's circle in 2025.

Jim Arslan – One of the most consistent players for the Euros over the years, Arslan provides Hodge a ton of options when it comes to the pairings due to his consistency in all parts of the game. Last year, Arslan went 2-2 for the Euros and was one of the few Euros to win his singles match. A tough matchup for any of the Americans, Neumann may just need to sacrifice some players when he pairs them up vs. Arslan.

Tom Wilkinson – Tom has been the most consistent Euro player for the past 7 years and has gone 9-2-2 in the last 3 years. The MVP for the Euros went 3-1 in 2024 and nobody wants to be matched up against Wilk in the Ryder Cup. Tom's game combines both power and finesse and he has been unflappable in the Ryder Cup. Thankfully, not all the Euros play as well as Tom, otherwise the Euros would never lose. The American's will need to plan more carefully this year during the pairings party to try and slow the roll of Wilkinson in these Ryder Cup events.

Bob Schumaker – One of the founding Ryder Cup members from 2006, Schu comes into this campaign as a bit of a mystery. Schu has been grinding away on the mini-tours this year and using sponsor exemptions to join some PGA events, but the Americans are not taking Schu lightly given his outstanding record in the Ryder Cup. The early Vegas line on the number of times Schu will use driver from under the trees is 2 1/2, but I'm taking the over with at least half of those shots hitting the green.

Brian Falcone – Another one of the Euros with a 2-2 record in 2024, Falcone has been a steady performer for the European team. In a demonstration of American/Euro partnership, Neumann and Falcone paired up to win their flight in the Shadow Wood Legacy tournament earlier this year so Neumann has seen first hand the steady nerves and smooth putting Falcone brings to these big events. Falcone is another one of the Euros that provides a tough matchup for any of the Americans.

Rob Waskey – Waskey has been a very consistent player for the Euros since joining the team in 2018 and has a winning record every year...until last year when he went 1-3. Maybe the Americans have finally figured out this tough matchup, or maybe Rob just had an off year (it happens frequently for the American players). Either way, the Americans won't take Waskey for granted. Waskey give’s Hodge a player he can easily pair with any other Euro from both a temperament and a consistency perspective. All eyes from both the Euros and the Americans will be on Waskey as the pairings begin.

Matt Reed – The Euros welcome a rookie to the team for the first time in a long time. Matt brings a strong game to the Euros and gives Hodge another long hitter to pair with his finesse players in the morning matches. Look for the Americans to try and rattle Reed by making him putt gimmies early in the day. Rookies have faired surprisingly well in recent years in the Ryder Cup, but not everyone acclimates easily to the pressure of playing for your country.

Greg Morgan – Morgan used a medical exemption to qualify for the 2024 Ryder Cup, but his 1-1-2 record last year cemented his place back on the team for 2025. Morgan is another of the Euros with a handicap around 10 but who can go low at any time. One of the nice things about playing with Morgan is that you get real time commentary from the player himself on every shot, much like fellow Euro Tyrrell Hatton. Morgan has a little more variability in his game, making him a wild card during matchups and on game day.
